12mo. (20 cm.) [10]3-379[1]p. Decorative endpapers. Fore- and bottom edge untrimmed. Dust jacket has small black and white photo of author on rear panel. Tan cloth with gilt decorations and gilt letters on the front cover and the spine. Book has gift inscription on first blank, top edge slightly dusty, cloth clean, gilt bright, else near fine with no internal markings. Jacket lightly soiled and very slightly shelfworn. Sheila Kaye-Smith [1887-1956] published numerous works of fiction. She live in Sussex near Hastings, where she married the Reverend Theodore Penrose Fry in 1924. SHEPHERDS IN SACKCLOTH is the story of a parish in her part of the world that is unified by the shepherd-like devotion of its rector. Other writers have praised her work.
