About this Item

SIGNED ¿Garnet Stephenson¿ at the bottom of the title page. 8vo. 58p. Illustrated throughout with numerous black and white captioned photos. Stapled booklet in white wrappers printed in black and with a vignette in black on the front cover of two miners standing beside a huge lump of mined silver with the notation ¿Columbian Exposition¿. Wrappers slightly darkened and very lightly soiled, just a hint of a vertical crease in the booklet, tiny ding to lower edge of front wrapper, corners square and flat, no rust on the staples, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. Garnet Coole Stephenson may appear to be a man¿s name, but the Preface refers to her husband, Paul E. Stepenson. She was a resident of Anaconda, Deer Lodge County, Montana and of Butte, Silver Bow County, Montana. This is the story of silver mining in the Flint Creek Valley, Montana, beginning in the 1860s. It describes activities and persons in such places as Philipsburg, Granite, Rumsey, and Black Pine. Bookseller Inventory # 008271
