About this Item

A long story by the famous Bret Harte, originally published in 1900, about a young man who escapes from hanging. This issue, the first thus with the date 1910 on both the title page and the copyright page, is a fancy copy with a gilt design on the front cover and the spine. The outside border on all the pages are decorated with a blue flower pattern. Illustrations are by Harriet Fisher and Arthur Keller. The book shows some wear on the corners and the spine ends but not yet frayed. The two lower corns are bumped slightly. Believed not to have been issued with a dust jacket. Tightly bound without any names or markings. The gilt on the cover is very bright and the spine not so bright but not worn. Three small light stains, perhaps oil from someone's hands, are on the front cover. The edges of the book are beginning to show age darkening. Still a nice copy considering its age.
