Original green pictorial cloth with gilt spine lettering and golden bear illustration on front board; octavo (5.25 x 7 inches); [8], 29 pp. 4 pages of ads at front and 24 pages of press notices for "Songs of the Sierra" at rear. Early work by the colorful and prolific poet of the West Coast. BAL issue A sheets (ads at front begin with "Thoughts About Art", binding B wth publisher's imprint at spine foot "Roberts Bros." This copy with 24 pages at rear described by BAL in postscript note as a "terminal catalog," though it consists entirely of reviews from the English press, concluding with a biography of the poet from the New York Evening Post. The newsclipping pasted in is the complete text of "A Letter to the Public from the Poet's Wife - Checkmating the Mrs. Stowes of the Futures" to the Portland Daily Oregonian. Dated Salem, Oregon, by M. M. Miller. November 5, 1871. BAL 13751 Light wear to spine ends and corners, front innner hinge starting, previous owner bookplate to front fixed endpaper, newsclipping pasted to rear endpaper, else very good. We had our open bookshop in the town of Sonoma for a total of 17 years, including 9 years at our East Napa St. location, however, as of April 13, 2013 we have closed our doors. Our business is now conducted online, by appointment, and at the approximately 8 antiquarian bookfairs at which we exhibit annually. Chanticleer Books is a sole-proprietorship owned and operated by Steve Blackmer, a full-time bookseller since 1985 and member of the Antiquarian Booksellers¿ Association of America (ABAA) since 1998.

Guarantee: All books are guaranteed as described and may be returned for any reason within 10 days of receipt.
Payment: Orders are payable in US$ by credit card (Visa and MasterCard only), PayPal, personal check, or money order. Libraries may request invoicing.

Orders usually ship within 2 business days. US orders are shipped BY Priority Mail, Media Mail, OR UPS ($5-$12 on most single title orders).
INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS PLEASE NOTE: Foreign orders are shipped at cost. International surface mail is not offered by the US Postal Service; all orders are shipped by air. We utilize the $30.00 Priority Mail International flat-rate mailer (4 lbs maximum weight) when we can adequately protect the book within. Oversize books will in most cases cost a minimum of $50.00 to ship overseas. The ABE default shipping rates are based on orders for 1 book at a maximum weight of 2.2 pounds. In many cases (large books, sets, insurance) this does not reflect the actual shipping cost. We will request additional shipping compensation through the Abebooks system when necessary.
