Handsome dark brown full morocco leather binding with geometric stamped borders to boards; five raised bands upon spine with five compartments minimally decorated with thin vertical bars and small centered quatrefoils both stamped in black; second compartment from top has bright gilt stamped lettering; elaborately gilt tooled interior dentelle borders with discrete simple gilt notches along board edges. Mild scuffing at spine ends with a few minor spots of abrasion upon boards. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers predominately maroon but with swirls of blue, white, orange, and green. Single quire (pages 189-208) slightly pulled else a near fine copy of a very attractive 19th century decorative binding. Text features four page Preface by Whittier with selections of poetry by numerous British and American authors organized into three sections "From Shakespeare to Milton," "From Dryden to Burns," and "From Wordsworth to Longfellow.".
