About this Item

Grey's second novel, subtitled "A Romance of the Early Settlers in the Ohio Valley," is set in the late 18th century in the years after the American Revolution. It is based on the legends surrounding Lewis Wetzel, hunter, scout and Indian fighter, who, for thirty years, tracked and killed the outlaws and renegades of the wild border country. 266 pages with four page illustrations by J. Watson Davis and 10 pages of advertisements. Gray cloth-covered boards, with red lettering and a black line drawing pictorial design on the front cover, are tight and square though with some fading and aging, especially along the spine. Corners and spine ends are bumped but not frayed or torn. The front pastedown is missing a quarter-sized piece torn from the fore edge and, likewise, the rear pastedown shows a dime-sized piece missing from the lower corner, probably a previous owner's bookmarks. O/w the text block is whole and unmarked, with only some soiling on the edges. A very decent copy of this early Grey novel. Bookseller Inventory # 005148
