Original Eugene Delcroix b/w photograph print. Image dimensions: H 13 7/16" x L 10 3/8" (H 34.2cm x L 26.5cm). Print mounted on rag sheet in turn mounted within embossed area of larger age-toned off-white sheet all under glass in black wood frame with dimensions H 20 5/8 " x L 16 1/8" (H 52.5cm x L 41cm). Image comprised of moss-draped cypress tree with partial water reflection in swamp at bottom. Hand-written title "Spring In The Swamp." in pencil at bottom left embossed border area immediately at below print with two-line pencil signature "E. Delcroix | N.O. LA" at bottom right corner. Age toning along edges of frame's rear-side backing paper and foxing spots to cardboard sheet. Latter also has handwritten two-line ink title - "Spring in the Swamp #705 | Near New Orleans, La." (#705 being Delcroix's inventory/stock or negative number) at top left and chipped white label for Orleans Gift Shop, 532 Royal Street, New Orleans at bottom center. Original wire hanger and two screws at frame's right and left edges still present. Photograph has not been examined outside of the frame. With his stylistically unique images of the French Quarter and local environs Delcroix is regarded as among the best of all photographers who practiced their craft in New Orleans, a group which includes Arnold Genthe, Pops Whitsell, and Clarence John Laughlin. After apprenticing with Anthony H. Hitchler and C. Bennette Moore, Delcroix operated his own studio from the 1930s to the 1960s. Although quite prolific with contract work for local government publications as well as studio and yearbook portraiture, Delcroix is best known as a pictorialist photographer as he successfully catered to the tourist market with carefully composed images combining light, shadow, and soft focus in order to imbue a romantic haziness to his glass plate negatives. Original prints from Delcroix's studio are now rather uncommon. Prefer in-store pickup as neither USPS or UPS has shown great care in handling glass frames in the past; shipping is available but extra postage will be required above the website's preset rate for appropriate packaging and insurance via one's preferred carrier.
