About this Item

12mo. (21 cm.) xxii, 310p. Translated with an Introduction by John Cournos. Foreword by George Reavey. Pictorial title page and pictorial endpapers. Red cloth gilt letters on the spine Black and white photo of Andrey Biely on the rear panel of the dust jacket. Just hints of wear to extremities, previous owner's name on front pastedown, cloth clean and bright, gilt bright, else near fine with no internal markings. Dust jacket has a couple of tiny chips missing and one tear. Born in Boris Bugayev in 1880, Andrey Biely was among the few well-known Symbolist writers who initially accepted the 1917 Russian Revolution. When ST. PETERSBURG was published, Biely fell out of favor with the Soviet regime even though the Russian literary world acclaimed it as a huge success. As a novelistl he has been frequently compared with James Joyce, and in Russian itself his influence on literature has been without equal. [from the dust jacket]. Bookseller Inventory # 006447
