97p. SIGNED BY THE VENERABLE FREDERIC BARAGA. A hardcover book in good condition. Spine is worn with a small chip in its center. Neat bookplate on inside front cover from a Franciscan community in Harbor Springs else clean and unmarked. Text in Latin. These are the first statues of the Diocese as promulgated by Baraga. The Venerable Frederic Baraga was the first bishop of Michigan's Upper Peninsula serving there as a missionary priest from 1830 onwards. In 1853 he became the first bishop of the diocese of Sault Sainte Marie (now located in Marquette). The rear of the book contains the text of the document granting faculties to the first priest ordained by the bishop: Fr. Nicholas Louis Sifferath. Baraga has filled in Sifferath's name in ink and then the conclusion of the document is SIGNED BY BISHOP BARAGA. Baraga was declared Venerable in 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI and his cause for sainthood remains under investigation. Bookseller Inventory #
