About this Item

Boston: Herbert B Turner, 1904. First Edition. A very good copy in red cloth with giilt lettering on the spine and front panel, gilt to the top edge block, and some edgewear at the spine ends and lower board edge. Contains three short stories: "The Story of a Lie," "The Misadventures of John Nicholson," and "The Body-Snatcher." This edition preceded the British version, Tales and Fantasies, published by Chatto & Windus in 1905. Publication of The Lie was delayed over 20 years due to a copyright dispute. "The Body-Snatcher" reads more like Poe than Stevenson and was well-received. Bookseller Inventory # 8749
