About this Item

thick small 4to. polished cloth, rebacked with original backing reattached. xxviii, 1254, (2) pages. With appendix and synopsis of headings. Author/title catalogues beget subject indexes. This particular one is a follow-on to the London Library catalogue, undoubtedly that of 1903 by the same author. The preface argues for the necessity of a subject index, as if that were not already clear in 1909, and gives a history and explanation of the index; Wright's assertion that libraries the size of the British Museum are too big for subject indexing may seem a little quaint today! Color of rebacking matches that of the original. Moderate scratching and soiling. polished cloth, rebacked with original backing reattached. Bookseller Inventory # 54164
