About this title

Synopsis:

"Sacred Wounds", by PW Covington continues the Beat tradition of the American road-warrior poet. Covington's work is rooted in his personal experiences and in the energy of movement. These poems take us from the war-ravaged airfields of Somalia to south Texas ranches, from the badlands of Utah to the Bay Area underground, and from the isolated introspection of a prison cell to the foot lights of the spoken word stage. These poems will resonate with any reader that loves the rush of wind through their hair; any reader that fights against injustice, the status quo, or parochialism; any reader that still believes in the promise held by mountains on the horizon. The poetry is out there, and PW Covington has brought it back, in this collection from Slough Press.

About the Author:

PW Covington was born in Victorville, CA in 1974. Born into a military family, Covington moved often as a child before his family settled in the south Texas town of Cuero, just before he started high school. After four semesters at Victoria College, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served with the 2nd Mobile Aerial Port Squadron, deploying to both southwest Asia and Somalia in his duty as an Air Transportation Specialist. Covington began writing poetry after leaving the Air Force, during a period of homeless wandering that took him to the Bay Area of California, cities across the southwestern US, and Mexico’s Copper Canyon region. He has worked as a day laborer, a merchant mariner, a zookeeper, a radio disc jockey, a political campaign staffer, a steel worker, as ground crew for a major US airline, a back-country canyon guide, a truck driver, and as a mental health peer counselor, among other endeavors. PW Covington has served time in Texas jails and prisons, and has written extensively about those experiences. His work has been included in both underground, independent, 'zines and journals published by academic institutions such as University of Texas Pan American, Our Lady of the Lake University, and South Texas College.
