4to-oversized-hardcover in light green paper-backed boards over dark green cloth spine. Title in gilt on front & spine. No place, no date, no edition-appears to be privately printed, circa 1948-1950s. Signed by Witter on title page. Very Good/: front cover exhibits offset fading; gilt title on cloth spine faded. Previous owner stamp to ffep. Text itself clean, bright & unmarked. Foreword by D.W.; Map; General Observations; Exhibits. 52pp. Diary of a hunt in East Africa in 1948 by prominent San Francisco stockbroker Dean Witter. The safari had been crystallizing for a couple years but finally commenced on September 4, 1948 when he left San Francisco. His diary entries begin on Sept. 12 and end October 17. He and his white hunter companion, Captain Smith, successfully kill a number of animals, mainly zebra, topi and Thomson's gazelles, but Witter assures his readers in the foreword that he killed only a small fraction of the number allowed by his license and that none of the meat was wasted. Diary is illustrated throughout with many color photographs of the hunt on full & separate pages, 18 total.'Exhibits' at rear include specific records of game killed including license limit, weight, date, sex, horns and length. Allover a very nice copy of a book that describes in detail a classic African safari complete with a great white hunter-guide and his wealthy companion. Signed.#90013.
