About this title

Synopsis:

Like an earth quake a diagnosis of cancer sets things in motion. For the patient who is told he has cancer his thoughts and emotions begin to take him on a roller coaster ride. Issues that have lain dormant begin to rise to the surface. He may become aware that he has broken relationships that need healing. He may become aware that he needs to be blessed by loved ones and in turn he needs to bless them. In the seven words that Jesus spoke from the cross He addresses the issues that every person needs to address when life's end approaches. Using the words of Jesus and the stories of cancer patients and their families Chaplain Stern weaves a story that can help dying patients and their families find love, healing, and peace.

About the Author:

Chaplain Steven Stern began his ministry as a Lutheran Pastor in l967 serving a small congregation in Minnesota for four years and a large congregation in Wisconsin for fifteen years. In l986 he became a hospital chaplain in Milwaukee, Wisconsin working primarily with cancer patients at Froedtert Hospital. Since his retirement in 2006 he continues to work half time as a chaplain in the Clinical Cancer Center at Froedtert Hospital. He is a board certified chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains. He and his wife, Jean, have four children and four grandchildren. Chaplain Stern speaks to groups and churches on the issues that dying people face and how we as family and friends can be of help to them at this crucial time.
