Book Description The Press of the Pioneers, Inc., 1935., New York, 1935. First edition. First edition. Thick 8vo. Original red cloth, titles stamped in gold gilt on the front cover and spine, x, [6], 526 pp., frontispiece, foreword, acknowledgment, illustrated from photographs, bibliography, Pioneers of Tuolumne County, Physicians and Surgeons Tuolumne County prior to 1854, Towns and camps of Tuolumne Region. A rambling record of mining days that tell how men found riches and died with their boots on. Tuolumne was noted for pure ore, and Jackass Gulch, Peppermint Gulch, Mountain Brow and Angel's Camp became famous for big hauls of gold. It is a land famous for the great mother lode of the Stanislaus, and famous also as the place where Mark Twain and Bret Harte got a lot of their literacy ore. Six Guns 312 says "Scarce." "Contains some material on Murieta and other California outlaws." A wonderful local history of the women who bravely bore with their men the terrors of the time. All came to exploit; yet most remained to settle. So was California really born. Laid-in are some newspaper clippings about the book and dated in 1935. Fine, tight copy in dust jacket with a small chip at the foot of the spine and light wear to the head of spine and corners. Seller Inventory # 43184
