About this title

This book provides an extensive overview of the Brazilian sculptor s career over the past three decades. With hundreds of color illustrations of the artists work, it is the most comprehensive publication on the artist s work to date. Cemin s sculptural works span a wide range of media, incorporating materials such as bronze, wood, aluminum, steel, silver, and marble. The works are amalgamations of form and style, and often employ black humor to explore both the search for authenticity in art history, and larger philosophical issues. Cemin has a particular interest in the relationship of the body to the physical world, and the desire to expand the limits of the self in order to loosen our assumptions regarding memory and perception. Cemin s work brings to mind familiar sculptural styles, objects, or forms such as Neo-Classicism, Modernism, or Baroque only to reveal themselves as ironic commentaries.

About the Author:

Saint Clair Cemin was born in Brazil, and has lived in New York since the early 1980s. His work has been shown internationally in venues including Mexico, Sao Paolo, Spain, Rome, Paris, Los Angeles, and New York.
