Volume II only of the 2-volume set, one of only 50 numbered copies of the large paper edition, this being No. 12. "Fifty Copies printed" appears on copyright page. Contemporary three-quarter dark brown leather over brown cloth-covered boards lined in gilt and with gilt titling on spine. 553 pps. Frontis engraving of The Philip English House, three additional engravings (two of pages of facsimile signatures and one of The Jacobs House), plus two plates after p. 274 with tipped on salt print photographs of original testimony documents, one full page and the second a small oblong photo. (Howes U-21). A tight example gnerally clean expect as noted below; some wear at the extremities of the leather and with a 2 1/2" split down the front outer hinge; foxing to the frontis, frontis tissue guard and title page and offsetting at p. 274 from the facing salt print. PENCIL OWNERSHIP SIGNATURE DATED 1890 OF A.B.CALEF, A DESCENDANT OF ROBERT CALEF, whose famed "More Wonders of the Natural World" published in 1700 was a sharply critical response to Cotton Mather's "Wonders of the Natural World" (1693), which had defended the Salem persecutions.
