4to, pp. 384; copious text illustrations including caricatures and stereotypes; full olive cloth; light soiling to bards, lower joint split, upper hinge cracked, text clean and sound, very good. Samuel Loyd was an American chess master, puzzle maker, and recreational mathematician. His puzzles were extremely popular, but many were likely plagiarized, including the famous 15 puzzle, which he claims to have invented in this book.
