About this Item

Quarto. [1954] viii, 343 pages (not to be confused with the 41 page summary), photos, maps, appendices;, charts. This was prepared for the San Carlos Apache Tribal Council and shows in great detail the conditions and prospects of the tribe in the early 1950's. Dr. Edward H. Spicer was an advisor as well as H.E. Robison. Walter Bimson was on the original board. Besides being the greatest in depth study of the tribe at the time (with photographs of the tribal officials, varying customs of traditional vs modern dress, mining conditions, etc), there are studies of the search on the lands for uranium by prospectors, and the production of asbestos which was a major source of income and the problems of irrigation. Issued only in a large paper edition. A good copy with light edgewar and no notes other than the previous ownership of Morgan Monroe (who had earlier written on uranium mining on the Indian lands). Bound in original pictorial paper wraps, paper spine label. Bookseller Inventory # 018664
