(Dante) SAN FRANCESCO d'ASCISI nel POEMA di DANTE e NEGLI AFFZESCHI di GIOTTO. Published by Giulio Giannini & Son, Firenza mcmv (Florence, 1905). Illustrated after Giotto's frescos. Obviously a small limited edition but no limitation is stated. Large 8vo size, binding of heavy hand-made paper boards over which is laid an imitation vellum, the whole secured with a green linen band which also serves as the binding for the text leaves. The binding vellum has small edge chips, and a large piece broken loose from the upper front cover. A large part of the absent chip is present along with a number of small chips, all in an envelope. However, even with a professional repair some of the large chipped area is absent. Contents consists of eleven (11) very heavy paper sheets plus matching endpapers, with a total of nineteen (19) full-page embossed and illuminated chromo-lithographed plates, all in beautiful condition, and with most but not all of the loose tissue-guards present though some wear. Absolutely magnificent text, borders, illumination, and illustration; the plates in fine condition throughout. Also included a 4-page English translation of Dante's poem printed on the same paper, with additional notes regarding publication, with a very small chip at upper spine tip. Bookseller Inventory #
