Previous owner's bookplate on front inside cover: Aurelia Henry Reinhardt, former president of Mills College for more than a quarter century and the first female moderator of the American Unitarian Association. One of 200 copies, octavo size, 32 pp. Edward O'Day (1917-2002) was a San Francisco local journalist and free-lance writer and a member of SF area book clubs, including being a charter member of the Book Club of California. O'Day loved San Francisco, and this book is both a love-letter to the city and a historical account of its geography and neighborhoods. Printed for Charles R. Boden, with a small card loosely laid in reading "The Season's Greetings, The Compliments of Judge Charles R. Boden, Christmas 1935", who was a member of the California Historical Society and spoke before the society about the Broderick-Terry duel. ___DESCRIPTION: Blue paper covered boards, light blue label to upper board with gilt lettering and gilt decorative rules, cream paper spine label with gilt lettering within a gilt rectangle, fore- and bottom edges uncut, frontispiece a view of the city circa 1870 with lettered tissue guard, title-page with publisher's device in blue and black, initial capital letter was originally designed by Mallette Dean and printed in blue and white, unfortunately it broke down after the first few copies were printed, and a typographical initial had to be substituted (from the bibliography); handset Lutetia type, machine-made paper with Grabhorn watermark, octavo size (9.25" by 6.25"), pagination: [i-v] vi and vii [viii] [1] 2-23, colophon [24], limited edition of 200 copies, unnumbered. ___CONDITION: Volume is almost near fine, with clean boards, top corners straight, bottom corners gently bumped with minimal rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean with a hint of toning, and the volume is entirely free of prior owner markings; light rubbing to the tail of the spine, more pronounced rubbing to the head of the spine, with a short tear to the paper covering the joint at the head of the spine; overall, a lovely, clean copy. ___CITATION: Grabhorn bibliography, no. 236. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
