About this title

Synopsis:

94 unnumbered pages with introductory text and including 86 full-color photographic images with captions. Santa Barbara, California, sheltered between the Islands of its channel out to sea and the mountains of the Santa Ynez Range inland, is one of the loveliest places in America, with a rich and fascinating heritage that spans more than two centuries of Spanish and American settlement. "There is a grace," says Fr. David Temple, "that stems from the age of the dons. By nature the place was sworn to beauty and by man it was pledged to graceful living, to refinement and hospitality." the grace and beauty of Santa Barbara and the surrounding countryside are abundantly displayed in this book. Here are the glorious Missions, the Spanish adobes, the quaintness of agaves; here are the mountains and the valley of live oaks; the tidal pools at evening and dawn along the coastline. The bells of Santa Barbara had been ringing for several years before George Washington took the oath of office. They are ringing still - and something of what they celebrate is pictured in this book.

Store Description

Rare Reads formerly operated a storefront in The Lakewood Antiques Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia but reverted to a strictly online operation when the Gallery closed. In 2006, Rare Reads published "The Heeey Baby Days of Beach Music" which received a bronze medal from The Independent Publishers Association. Long sold out, copies of the 13 pound tribute to the musicians who created the unique R&B genre are occasionally available on ABE. The book was a collaborative effort of Rare Reads and many others including the musicians that created the sound Southerns term "Beach Music." Rare Reads is considering future publications in addition to expanding its online enterprise. Rare Reads is operated by Greg Haynes and son Reid Haynes and has warehouses in Atlanta and Athens, Georgia.
