About this Item

Small 4to. Grey cloth, pictorial dust jacket. xvi, 306pp. Illustrations, foldout map. Very good/very good. Jacket rather edgeworn, with several small edge chips; bookplate on front pastedown and extra set of jacket flaps tipped to front flyleaf. Tight and nice first edition -- the Civil War Book Club edition, labeled the "Riders with Old Bedford Edition," bearing a special printed colophon leaf tipped in before the half-title page, signed boldly in blue ballpoint by Henry. (Civil War Book Club editions, by the way, are simply true first editions into which the signed leaf has been tipped -- and in this case, the CWBC replaced the trade dust jacket with their own, identical in every respect except for the rear panel, which has been replaced with the headline "WHY a Civil War Book Club?" and brief text by Civil War historian Stanley F. Horn.) James I Robertson Jr. describes this book as "A useful collection of short memoirs by men who fought with and against 'Old Bedford.'" NEVINS I, 103. Bookseller Inventory # 27423
