Description:

Born in France in 1901, Anna Kavan grew up in various European countries and in California before completing her education in England. She was twice married and divorced, and worked intermittently as literary assistant to Cyril Connelly, as researcher in a military psychiatric unit, and as interior designer. She was a heroin addict who dies by her own hand in December of 1968. Out of her terrifying experience with mental illness she created a body of fiction of intense, near-surrealist artistry, but it is only posthumously that she has received the wider acclaim which her writing commands. Dust jacket shows edge and corner wear. A very crisp, clean, and tight copy. Size: 5 3/4" x 8 1/2". 200 pp. No marks. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges are clean. Book Description Peter Owen Publishers, United Kingdom, 2009. Paperback. Condition: New. Reprint. Language: English. Brand new Book. Rejection, betrayal, and a girl's discovery of evil are the themes of this strange, haunting novel. Discarding such aids to realism as geography and mundane physical facts, thisnarrativetells the story of a young girl, rejected by her narcissistic and vengeful mother, whose life thereafter is a continuing series of betrayals that can lead only to the dead end of madness and death.Demonstrating anearly perfect control over language, this tale describes, in the simplest and most ordinary of terms, the bizarre and hallucinatory landscape of derangement.".
