Pages clean, though bearing a neatly closed tear near the bound edge of the title page and vertical creasing through the front free endpaper and first three leaves with a few short tears at the edges, as well as a few areas of gray smudging in the text portions of occasional pages; binding is mildly relaxed, but secure, the full cloth cover rubbed through at the free corners, spine ends, and bottom front edge and bearing scattered, small, pale spots front and back, a little specking at the spine, and some dimming of the gilt titles on the front, otherwise remarkably sound and attractive, with blindstamped decorations to front and rear, 400pp., full- and half-page black-and-white photo illustrations throughout.
