Ibn Gabirol (c.1020s-1059) was a medieval Spanish Hebrew poet and Arabic philosopher. He was one of the first teachers in Europe of Neoplatonism of which his work "Fons Vitae", a philosophical dialogue between master and disciple, had a great influence on scholasticism of medieval Christianity. The editor, Leopold Dukes (1810-1891) was an authority on medieval Hebrew poetry, especially Ibn Gabirol, and published his poetry with commentary, for the first time, in this volume which has become a source book of Ibn Gabirol's works.
