The Science of Being and Art of Living
365 pages. The book in which the Maharishi laid out the idea of Trancendental Meditation (TM), a new interpretation of Vedic (Hindu) philosophy for a Western audience. TM was probably the most popular Eastern tradition in the West throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with many prominent people, most notably the Beatles, associated with the Maharishi. While perhaps not as popular as it once was, it introduced Eastern religious ideas to a generation of Westerners and played a key role in the flourishing of Eastern religion in the West and the rise of the New Age movement. Important and very scarce in the first edition. First edition (first printing). A very good copy (previous owner's name inside) in a very good, price-clipped dust jacket missing a few chips from the edges. Bookseller Inventory # 71131
