About this Item

Bedsheet size (approx. 9 x 12). Both with illustrated front covers, one depicting a sailor holding a large ship in the air with one hand, the other depicting satellites and space vehicles orbiting the Earth. Pagination runs 97-192; 193-288. With ads and illustrations throughout. Two issues of this early science fiction magazine, featuring parts one and two of 'The Alien Intelligence' by Jack Williamson, and parts one and two (complete) of an article, illustrated, 'The Problems of Space Flying,' by Hermann Noordung. Noordung was the pseudonym for Herman Potocnik, a Hungarian rocket engineer and early innovator in astronautics. His work (with the same title as above) was first published in Berlin, in German, in 1928. (Wikipedia). The introduction to this article states that this was the first American appearance. Potocnik addresses issues that might be involved in space travel, including cooking and eating, communication, propulsion, etc. July in FAIR/GOOD condition. August in GOOD condition. Very light soiling to both issues, with minor uneven browning and foxing to both volumes, mostly along the extremities and rear covers. The July issue has two large faint diagonal creases to the front cover. Wrappers chipped, split, torn and worn along the spine with minor loss. Remnants of an address label to the front cover. The August issue has volume and issue numbers written in ink to the front cover. Minor chipping, tearing and wear along the spine. Several different groups of pages in the interior with their upper right corners cut along a diagonal, with 2 inch pieces missing from those locales. This does not affect text. Text blocks in both volumes browned. Bookseller Inventory # 006467
