Worn & rubbed, particularly along the edges, endsheets heavily foxed, both pastedowns with many pencilled equations; ink name and note on second blank, bleeding through the back (which is an ad for Part 2), and affecting the title page; some foxing in the text, pencilled notes to the endsheets. 473 pages, index, many small wood-engraved figures in the text. Part II, 1836, is in full black leather, gilt titling; worn, missing about a quarter-inch at the head of the spine, foot of the spine also chipped; ex-library with bookplate, small spine label partly removed, deaccessioning rubberstamp; pencil notes on endsheets, some foxing & discoloration to pages.
