Description:

Limited edition of 260, this is #202. 340 pages, plus six additional tipped-in pages in color, as issued. Red cloth with gilt lettering and original vellum binding. Some minor nicks to the red front board, overall a very good copy with a clean, crisp copy of the National map included in the back. Comes with a beautiful custom made contemporary box with the name of the book outlined in gilt on the spine. The book includes over 57 illustrations. Charles Blair Macdonald was one of the founders of the U.S.G.A. He also designed the National Golf Links of America and Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda. This book covers early American golf, the beginnings of the U.S.G.A., the history of the National Golf Links and his design activities. Macdonald had a healthy ego and it comes through in this book. He is also a master storyteller and his insights into the game and its history, traditions and how it developed in the US are still valuable today. Murdoch 475; D&M 24760; D&J M1690. One of the true treasures of collectible golf books. Donovan & Jerris describe the book as one of the most important books on the history of golf in America. We specialize in golf books.
