[Scrapbook]: Hungarian Documentary and Newsreel Films

Oblong quarto measuring 14" x 10". String-tied green leather over stiff paper boards. Contains 140 sepia-toned or black and white silver gelatin photographs measuring between 3" x 3.5" and 5" x 7" with captions in Hungarian. Near fine album with near fine contents. A remarkable scrapbook compiled by Roszik Gyula, a Hungarian film crew member working on newsreels and documentaries beginning in 1946. Gyula curate the scrapbook pages featuring title cards, cast listing, and photographs from various the films he worked on during the post-war era of the Hungarian film industry. Additionally included are newspaper clippings discussing the films included in the album. The images seen throughout are artistic shots from film sets, behind the scenes images, and still photography, some of which are die-cut and artistically mounted in the album. This album begins in the inter-war period before the state began to nationalize the film industry. The state took over the industry completely starting in 1948 mandating that the only company who would produce films was the Hungarian National Filmmaking Company. The films featured there include, *Talpalatnyi Föld*, (A Foot of Earth); *Építjük A Dolgozók Országát*, (We are Building the Land of Workers); *Asszonyok A Demokráciáért*, (Women in Democracy); *A Megvalósult Tervek Országa*, (Country of Implemented Plans); *Tanoncváros*, (Apprentice City); *Barangolás A Kultúra Birodalmában*, (Roaming the Realm of Culture); *Az Ifjuság Hazája*, (Home of Youth); *Egy Szobor Születése*, (The Birth Of A Statue).
