January 1, 1832." Alexander Perry (1822-1888) was the son of Marianne De Wolf, daughter of James DeWolf (the infamous slave trader) of Bristol, Rhode Island, and Lieut. Commander Raymond Henry Jones Perry, U.S.N. (1789-1826) who was the brother of Oliver Hazard Perry and Matthew Calbraith Perry. "His sister Sarah wrote of Raymond that Oliver, his famous brother, was 'devotedly attached to our dear Raymond, as who that knew him before his unhappy marriage was not? and the latter returned his affection with a love 'passing the love of woman.' But it is not necessary to dwell on the subject.' He was highly esteemed of and loved by his brothers and comrades as shown by numerous letters from noted officers under whom he served including Decatur, Rogers and Bainbridge. He, or his heirs, inherited Hog Island in Bristol Harbor from his father-in-law." Raymond's great-grandson James DeWolf Perry, became Bishop of the Episcopal diocese of Rhode Island."
