About the Author: George E. Murphy, a retired marine engineer, graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, class of 1943. He is a member of the Society of Marine Port Engineers, the New Jersey chapter of the American Merchant Marine Veterans, and the Navy League. He and his wife are parents to three children.
