About this Item

This book has been heavily used. The very worn, front, brown leather cover is just about to detach, and lacks the back cover and spine. There are no frontpapers, with the first page being the title page, with the inked inscription of "Gustavus Williams Book" in the top margin. He has also made an inscription at the upper part of the second part of the book. Pagination: iv, (4), 48, 64, and 64 pages of tables, with the rest of the tables lacking, I don't know how many more pages. Also leaf 25/26 is lacking from the second part. There are no plates or plans. There are some pieces missing in the margins, with the loss of a few words. The pages have some stains with occasional ink blotches. This book originally belonged to a seaman in the New England trade (he uses the old "f" for "S"), since the back of the title page has 8 manuscript lines of questions in setting a course, mentioning the course from Portland (Maine) to Boston.
