Half mottled black cloth and gilt-ruled brown morocco, "Scrap Album" stamped in gilt on upper board; 242 x 312 mm; contains 38 leaves, each with 4 algea or seaweed specimens mounted to a card, and adhered to both the recto and verso of nearly every page, with the location specified by hand, in black ink. Backstrip perished; corners scuffed. Contents simply beautiful. A grand total of 272 specimens, gathered from 1887 to 1890, at Bermuda (4); Old Point Comfort, Virginia (12); Atlantic City (46) and Longport (60), New Jersey; Warwick Neck (40) and Newport (4), Rhode Island; York Beach, Maine (22); Cottage City, Martha's Vineyard (36); California (28); Victoria Vancouvers Island in Canada's Salish Sea (4); and 16 unlabelled. This cataloguer's untrained eye spies (she thinks), Cystoseira baccata (Bushy Berry Wrack), Cystoseira nodicaulis (Rainbow Wrack), Fucus ceranoides (Horned Wrack), Halidrys siliquosa (Podweed), and Laminaria hyperborea (May Weed, Kelp) -- but those are just a few amongst many. Specimens are remarkably well preserved and display very nicely, in an array of colors and textures, and where pieces have broken or deteriorated, a faint ghost remains. Bookseller Inventory # D7921
