The second annual report of the second New Jersey geological survey, containing reports of William Kitchell on the northern part of the state, George H. Cook on the southern part, and Egbert L. Viele on the topographical survey. This is the most attractively illustrated of all the early New Jersey geological survey reports, with nearly twenty-five scenes engraved on wood by Johann Hermann Carmiencke, a German-born landscape painter who had come to America in 1851.
