About this title

Synopsis:

An exploration of codes, codebreakers, secret weapons, spies, assassinations, and sabotage analyzes how these changed the course of World War II

From School Library Journal:

Grade 7-9 Marrin's account of many of the espionage operations in the European theater during World War II is intriguing. All of the better-known cases are described: Enigma, Noah's Ark, Norsk Hydroelectric Plant, Double-Cross, MI5, MI6, Intrepid and Maquis. For the most part, the text is smooth, but it is sometimes marred by shifts to the second-person from a third-person narrative. The quality of the many black-and-white photographs is excellent. All avid World War II readers will enjoy this title, but it may not be a necessary purchase for collections that have Goldston's Sinister Touches (Dial, 1982), Lawson's The Secret World War II (Watts, 1978; o.p.) and others, since the contents of these are similar. A good choice for collections that need expanding in this area. Eldon Younce, Harper Elementary School, Kans.
