About this title

On a moonlit night in Georgia, on the porch of their modest trailer home, Caulie McClure finds the body of her husband, Aubrey. He is slumped in his favorite rocking chair, his blood-spattered guitar resting in his lap. Aubrey has apparently taken his own life. There is no note. Bewildered, hurt and angry, Caulie sets out to find the reason for Aubrey’s death. In imaginary talks with a famous talk show host, Caulie pours out her story—the insecurity that has plagued her all her life, the adultery that almost ruined her marriage, the loving but hardscrabble life she and Aubrey shared, the erosion of her faith in Aubrey’s talent, and finally the suicide that left her with nothing but questions. But Caulie learns that nothing is ever as it seems, and she discovers a secret that even Aubrey never knew.
