Reviews
Grade 4-6 Harried parents, scout leaders, and children looking for rainy day diversions or a project to break up a long summer will find many ideas to satisfy budding building interests. Each ``construction'' starts out with a list of supplies, followed by step-by-step directions for cutting, taping, and building the fort, castle, etc. Well-labeled line drawings help to clarify the instructions. The projects include such things as a sheik's tent (made from a card table and sheets), a wooden clubhouse, a junkyard fort (made from ``treasures'' collected from trash or junkyards), and a ``Creepy Halloween Tunnel'' (complete with spooky things to see, hear, and feel). There are also directions for two puppet theaters and a basic ``store.'' McCoy includes cautions for cutting and collecting materials as well as getting parental permission. Where such craft-type books are popular, this should not be a shelf sitter. Lisa Corlee, Metropolitan Library System, Okalahoma City
