About this title

Can You See Me? An Unveiling of the Human Spirit, the first of a 3-book set, is an exquisite collection of paintings and poetry by Karen Holt that helps us see, hear, and know ourselves and others better. Holt's art honors and embodies beauty and truth, while speaking directly to our hearts in a language that is universal.

In her 20 years as an active artist, painter and poet, Karen Holt has achieved international acclaim for her artistic excellence. Her classical paintings, whether portraiture or genre works, are depictions of quiet, unguarded moments of truth. Expression of self can be seen in each painting, every poem.

She is a woman who understands the value of facing her fears in exchange for an enriched and complete life. Her paintings and the insights gained through their creation are reflected in this 96 page collection of more than 55 full color reproductions and poetry, and represent not only her story, but the passage of many... moving from darkness to light. Karen Holt's artwork testifies to the power of the arts to heal, reveal, and unveil our creative and indomitable human spirit.

A gift and a treasure, to be opened again and again.

About the Author:

Coming from a family of artists, Karen Holt carried on the tradition, when she turned from her biological science career of fourteen years, towards that of art. A native of Texas, fourth born in a family of five children, Karen's twin brother's life and death were the inspiration for her change in career direction.

On the journey to developing her own unique style, Karen began by developing a solid foundation of time-tested technical skills. From this, she has funneled her creative energies onto the canvas, translating feeling into form, values of light into shape. She is strongly influenced by the masters, particularly Bouguereau and Caravaggio.

Painting in the classical representational style, she creates art that invites and connects, telling the story of real people, and universal values.

Her poetry, is written to enhance and flow in parallel with each painting, underlining their message, a reminder of our shared humanity.

Permanence and distinction are represented in Karen's portraiture, capturing the character & spirit--the illusive portrait within. Each is an original--a genuine expression of the individual painted into an enduring form, an oil on canvas.

Nationally recognized and honored, her work has been described as classical in its nature and composition, and yet the contents remain very much of today. She bridges the old with the new, the classical with the contemporary, producing timeless works of art.

Karen and her husband, Ron, parents of three children, reside in Texas, where good friends, bike rides, long walks, and fresh air continue to provide the inspiration for her work.
