The first of the two works is an ethical study. The second is responsa. Wandsbek, now a borough of Hamburg was in Hagiz's time one of the three small cities that comprised the "Drei Gemeinde," a union of small Jewish communities of Altona, Hamburg and Wandsbek. Hagiz became the official censor for Hebrew books in 1726. Between two and three dozen Hebrew books were published in the short period when he served as censor. Many were Hagiz's.
