About this title

Winner of the Gold Medal for Design in the Florida Book Awards competition for books published in 2008, Seminole Views is a full color, hardcover (with jacket) coffee table book that features old Seminole postcards (some 100 years old), as well as modern photographs of and interviews with members of the Seminole Tribe in Florida. The book covers: Seminole historical background, Seminoloe Wars and warriors, Seminole historical figures, Black Seminoles, Seminole housing, traditional Seminole food, Seminole clothing and style, Seminole transportation, The Everglades, Traditional Seminole medicine, Seminole religious customs, Seminole legends, tourism, Seminole crafts, Seminole children, Education, and the cattle business. Complete with references and an index.

From the Inside Flap:

I have used my extensive and fascinating collection of old Seminole postcards (some of which are nearly a century old) with related contemporary interviews and photographs as visual reference points to depict the Seminole people and some of their culture in Seminole Views. Much of the information contained in Seminole Views was provided by members of the Seminole Tribe through extensive taped interviews over a period of ten years as I made friends with many members of the Seminole Tribe. They have allowed me to take photographs that probably no other person has been able to get. Some Tribal members have introduced thoughts that have not appeared elsewhere in other books on the Seminoles. Wide ranging in its scope, Seminole Views addresses not just some of the historical background of the Seminoles and their ability to survive over the years in the harsh and forbidding Florida Everglades -- it covers some Seminole concerns as well.
