Digswell Place. James Nisbet and Co. 1949 (book two) 1950 (book three). Stiff card wraps with black and white illustrations to the front and publisher's device to the rear. Sewn binding; later editions were stapled. Beautifully illustrated in colour by Florence and Margaret Hoopes and in book three, the addition of Christopher Sanders. a series of early reading books for children, originally published in the UK by James Nisbet and Co in four volumes in 1949 50, and one of the first to make use of the "look and say" approach. Further volumes appeared later, and the series became a sales success in the 1950s and 60s, both in the UK and in New Zealand. By the 1970s, the books were considered outdated but still retain a nostalgic vintage charm. These volumes are extremely well preserved. Apart from extremely minor tiny amount of rubbing at the spine ends and two purple stamps across the title pages, the books are approaching fine. There are two faint marks to the white hens on the cover of book three but this is minimal. The wraps will be covered with a 100 micron inert archival protective jacket which is removable. Post 8vo 8" x 5" [20cm x 12cm] approx. 56pp (book two) and 80 pp (book three).
