"Seven Pillars of Wisdom" by T. E. Lawrence. Published by Doubleday, Doran & Company, New York, 1935. First American edition with its scarce original dust jacket. Housed in its original slipcase. Thick 4to [8"x 10"], 672 pp. The autobiographical account of British soldier T. E. Lawrence's involvement in the Arab revolt against the Ottoman Turks of 1916-1918. Lawrence played a pivotal role in the revolt and provides a riveting, personal retelling. The book would later be made into a major motion picture which would become one of film's most enduring epics, Lawrence of Arabia. Housed in its original slipcase, which is in good condition. The boards are toned and worn with the top of the rear board pulling away from the case.The paper is peeling at the spine. Minor chips, wear, and staining. The original dust jacket is in very good minus condition. A few large chips are missing from the edges, especially at the spine. The spine is toned with small stains. The flaps are clipped but retain the original price of $5.00 on the front flap.The book is in near fine condition. The green cloth boards are extremely well preserved with crisp edges.
