Limited Signed Hardcover Edition. Ivory cloth with gold spine titling and image of a fairy fiddler impressed in gold on the cover. Illustrated endpapers. 152 pages. Black & white illustrations, most full-page. ~ Book is in fine, clean, unread condition in a fine dust jacket, which is now protected in a clear archival cover. ~~ Canadian author Charles de Lint draws from European and Native American folklore, and peoples his uplifting modern fantasy stories with fairies, animal spirits, enchanted trees, and forest creatures, while also addressing life events, family, and relationships. ~ This novella takes place outside of the fictional town of Newford, in backwoods hill country. The feisty red-haired Dillard sisters--Adie, Laurel, Bess, Sarah Jane, Elsie, Ruth and Grace--become entangled in an otherworldly feud between the 'sangmen (tiny ginseng root fairies) and the bee fairies after an act of kindness by 16-year-old Sarah Jane. This modern-day fairy tale is replete with fanciful characters: Aunt Lillian the forest herbalist, the Father of Cats, the Green Boy, the Apple Tree Man, etc., as well as modern elements such as cell phones. The action is fast-paced and engaging, with a satisfying denouement. ~~ This book also represents the first collaboration between de Lint and World Fantasy Award-winning artist Charles Vess, whose whimsical drawn illustrations form a perfect complement to the text. ~~ This limited edition first edition is signed by both Charles de Lint (whose signature looks like a scribble) and by Charles Vess on the publisher's tipped-in page. A beautiful story and a lovely collectible book. Size: 9.25" Tall. Bookseller Inventory #
