About this Item

The sixth volume of the critical edition of the Shahnameh (The Book of Kings), the Persian national epic and the greatest monument of Persian language and literature by the poet Ferdowsi (d. 1020 C.E.) has just been published. Ferdowsi's work, which contains the traditional history of ancient Iran, its myths and legends, its tales of kings and noble warriors, as well as an almost factual history of the Sasanian dynasty (226â"650 C.E.), has been since its composition the mainstay of Iranian identity. Volume VI covers the rule of Alexander the Great through that of the Sasanian Bahram V (5th century C.E.).The most voluminous of the published volumes, and nine years in the making, the sixth volume has been edited by Dr. Mahmoud Omidsalar (California State University, Los Angeles) following the editorial methodology established by Prof. Djalal Khaleghi-Motlagh (emeritus, Hamburg University) editor the first five volumes, and with his participation. All of the oldest manuscripts have been examined and their variants recorded. Bookseller Inventory # FER6SHAH
