About this title

Synopsis:

Although born on a farm as a sharecropper's son, I became fascinated with radios and electronics before television existed. I dreamed of the possibilities of space travel because of Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. Because of moving, I attended many different schools including three in the first grade and three my senior year.

I met and married my wonderful wife within about three months after being in the Navy during the Korean War. I was one of the early people working downrange in the Bahamas Islands when we first began launching satellites from Cape Canaveral. For two-years my family roughed it in a 3-room shack on Grand Bahama Island because the company did not support families.

My wife had a major heart attack in 1989 that damaged her heart. The doctors said she would probably only live another 5-10 years. She lived almost 22 years after the heart attack, but it was a downhill trek. I became her caregiver, 24/7, as her health declined.

About the Author:

I was born a sharecropper's son during the Great Depression. After Dad had a heart attack, we left the farm and moved frequently as he tried to find jobs to support the family. One of my English teachers told me I should be a writer, but I wanted to be an electronics engineer. I became a technical writer and made a living writing technical manuals the rest of my life. As I told my children and grandchildren stories about places we had been and variety of things we had done, they kept telling me to 'write it down.' I did and created a website where they could read the stories about our lives. They kept hounding me to put them into a book, so I finally rewrote and reorganized some of the stories into a book.
