The story of James Daulton, born in Kentucky and raised in Hannibal Missouri. he came overland to California in the Gold Rush. He had no success with mining and returned to Hannibal by 1852, but returned to California in 1853, to begin a ranchin business. Book one covers the period 1846-1848 and life in Hannibal. Book two,1849-1865, mostly of life in California. Book three, 1866-1876, life in California and news of the day. Book four, 1877-1893, concluding with his death. Illustrated with photographs.
