He encountered problems with Fenians, Indians, and the toughs who were brought in to build the railroads. He envisioned the future and encouraged many Easterners to move west to the Dakota Territory. He adjusted to every type of crime and brought law and order to a grateful community. (Arson, murder and hangings were prevalent at the time. ) Travel was mainly by stage coach, steamboat, or railroad. Charleys romance with a beautiful Metis girl had a surprise ending.
