About this title

This is the fourth edition of this quirky and quintessential shopping guide to Shenzhen, the city in China just across the border from Hong Kong. This easy-to-use pocket guide takes readers on a shopping expedition covering everything from how to get the special visa, how to get there, where to find the most amazing deals and how to negotiate with the toughest of all, the shopkeepers of Shenzhen. Half the book covers a few hundred tips on shopping in the famous Lowu Commercial City Shopping Mall, a warren with hundreds of little shops tumbling over each other selling everything from amazing handbags to semi-precious stones, art and designer overruns. In this latest edition, she takes the reader shopping into the heart of the city with a new section called, Shopping Along The Metro Line , the Metro being the city s safe new urban transit system. She introduces readers to the city's favorite old haunts and new sophisticated shopping venues with maps and loads of directions in Chinese to help you shop just like the locals.

About the Author:

Ellen McNally has lived in Hong Kong for over 18 years and her insider knowledge of the area was what first prompted her to share her tips about this unique shopping Mecca. She launched her first edition of the book at the end of 2002, hoping to introduce her fellow resident expats to a new shopping experience. Before long, international tourists got wind of it and with directions from her book, have been making a side-trip to Shenzhen part of their Hong Kong travel itinerary ever since. This year, she also launched a companion book to this one called, "Shop in Hong Kong - An Insider s Guide" in case travelers forgot that Hong Kong is after all the shopping capital of the world.
